WideCasting news: After a half-Japanese played Superman and a hapa Chinese played Lana Lang, it’s fitting that Perry White be…not white.  Laurence Fishburne will play the cantankerous Perry White, the editor of the Daily Planet where Lois Lane and Clark Kent work.

Lois and Clark: the New Adventures of Superman’s Man of Steel Dean Cain, born Dean George Tanaka, did not publicly speak about his heritage—probably more due to the fact that his father left his pregnant mother.  Cain seldom if ever has said anything positive about his biological father.

Kristin Kreuk, Smallville’s Lana Lang, has been adamant in pointing out her Chinese heritage.  Kreuk has played the titular character in Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li as well as a Pakistani woman in Partition.  She became well known in Canada for her role in the TV series Edgemont as Laurel Yeung.  (That also starred Grace Park of Hawaii Five-0.)

Fishburne, who just left his stint on CSI, will film the role in Zack Snyder’s reboot of the film, which stars Henry Cavill and Amy Adams along with Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Russell Crowe and Christopher Meloni.

Man of Steel is scheduled for a 2013 release.
