Ellen DeGeneres

Yes, it’s about a Jewish-Chinese blended family and their kids….  Ellen’s company is producing the project, with Alex Herschlag exec producing and writing (Alex worked with Ellen on her previous ABC sitcom, Ellen, and wrote material for some of her awards show stints as well).  For now it’s just a script sale — won’t know whether it’ll get shot for a few months.  We’ll keep you posted.

Always on the ball is Deadline Hollywood.  Here’s some of their exclusive report.

EXCLUSIVE: ABC is bringing Ellen DeGeneres and Alex Herschlag back into the fold, outbidding NBC for a single-camera comedy project written by former Ellen writer Herschlag and executive produced by the star of the 1990s ABC comedy.

The project, from Warner Bros TV and DeGeneres’ studio-based production company A Very Good Production, has received a script commitment plus penalty. Titled Weitz & Wong, it is a multi-generational family comedy about a mixed race Jewish-Chinese couple and their two children trying to create their own identity in the face of their very different extended families. The premise is inspired by the real-life experiences of Herschlag’s brother.

Wait, Weitz & Wong?  Really?
