Eva Longoria

The Huffington Post published a nice little piece today about Latino “celebrities who care.”  It’s far from comprehensive, but they do list Eva Longoria, Juanes, Rosario Dawson, George Lopez, Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez, and model Adriana Lima, and talk a little about the work each is doing.  Here’s the story.

Shakira’s recent award from the Latin Recording Academy as 2011 Person Of The Year honored her musical talent as well as her philanthropic work. But the Colombian singing star isn’t alone in her charitable work. Celebrities from all over Latin America are embracing philanthropic causes and lending a hand in their communities.

Many of these stars grew up during tumultuous times in their native countries. Now, they’re using their fame and good fortune to help others. The singer Juanes, for instance, is helping children injured during civil strife. Actress Rosario Dawson seeks to empower Latino youth through the voter-registration organization Latino Vote. These and others stars have founded their own organizations, helping to educate underprivileged children, raising money for AIDS awareness and supporting communities affected by natural disasters.
