I recently attended an Obama 2012 luncheon in Los Angeles with First Lady Michelle Obama.  Of course, there were the usual A-list celebrities in attendance, including the cast of The Help, Meg Ryan, Eva Longoria, and more.

I even got a chance to say hello to Samuel L. Jackson.  If I had known he had given this recent quote, I probably would have engaged him even more.

In an upcoming interview with Ebony, Jackson says:

“I voted for Barack because he was black. Cause that’s why other folks vote for other people — because they look like them,” Jackson said, according to the New York Post.

He contended that Obama’s message wasn’t important, since he believes most politicians will say anything to get elected.

“That’s American politics, pure and simple. [Obama’s] message didn’t mean [anything] to me. In the end, he’s a politician. I just hoped he would do some of what he said he was gonna do. I know politicians … lie cause they want to get elected,” he continued, according to TMZ.

Jackson goes on to say:

Dropping the N-word many times, Jackson added, “When it comes down to it, they wouldn’t have elected a [bleep]. Because, what’s a [bleep]? A [bleep] is scary. Obama ain’t scary at all. [Bleeps] don’t have beers at the White House. [Bleeps] don’t let some white dude, while you in the middle of a speech, call [him] a liar. A [bleep] would have stopped the meeting right there and said, ‘Who the [bleep] said that?’ I hope Obama gets scary in the next four years, ’cuz he ain’t gotta worry about getting re-elected.”

On one hand, I get what he says about politicians.  In some ways, Jackson is protecting himself from being disappointed by them.  But would he really vote for someone like Herman Cain or Ward Connerly mainly because of their ethnicity?

I would hope that the Jedi master would be able to see beyond a person’s skin color and see what’s underneath.
